ΒιΆΉΙη announces ΒιΆΉΙη alumna Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger β15 as its next head womenβs basketball coach.
Schwagmeyer-Belger comes to ΒιΆΉΙη from John Wood Community College, where she was the Head Womenβs Basketball Coach for the 2024-2025 season. Before coaching at JWCC, she served as a head junior high coach and assistant high school coach on the Camp Point Central girls basketball team, in addition to an impressive career as a player and in player development.
βTo no oneβs surprise, we had many impressive applicants for the head coachβs position in womenβs basketball,β said Brian McGee, PhD, ΒιΆΉΙη president. βCoach Schwagmeyer-Belger stood out for her great knowledge of the game, her extensive professional experience, and her strong desire to make a difference at her alma mater. I join our entire community in welcoming Ali back to ΒιΆΉΙη. All who meet her will know Ali is committed to this institution and to the success, both on and off the court, of the women who will play for her.β
Schwagmeyer-Belger has been a mainstay on the ΒιΆΉΙη regional basketball scene for the past two decades. She graduated from Camp Point Central High School as the programβs all-time leading scorer, with 1,950 points in her high school career, and was a two-time all-state selection. She spent two seasons as a player at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina before transferring to ΒιΆΉΙη.
In two seasons with the ΒιΆΉΙη Hawks, Schwagmeyer-Belger was named the Great Lakes Valley Conferenceβs Player of the Year during her junior season and was a first-team All-GLVC selection as a senior. As a junior, she led the GLVC in scoring averaging 17.8 points, and she averaged 6.6 rebounds and topped the Hawks with 121 assists and 45 steals. As a senior, she averaged 18 points and 7.9 rebounds to go along with 86 assists and 56 steals. She earned first-team All-Midwest Region honors both seasons.
βWe are thrilled to welcome Coach Ali Schwagmeyer-Belger back to the ΒιΆΉΙη family as our new head womenβs basketball coach,β said Josh Rabe, ΒιΆΉΙη Athletic Director. βCoach Schwagmeyer-Belger brings a proven record of success, a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and a vision that aligns perfectly with our departmentβs commitment to excellence. We are confident Coach Schwagmeyer-Belger will lead our program to new heights and continue to build a culture of integrity, competitiveness, and pride. Weβre excited for what the future holds under her leadership.β
Schwagmeyer-Belger played professionally overseas in Germany, Spain and Australia, averaging double figures in scoring and earning all-star honors playing in Perth, Australia. She also served as an assistant coach at Hannibal-LaGrange University during that time.
βI am honored to return to ΒιΆΉΙη, a place that played a pivotal role in shaping me both as a player and as a person,β said Schwagmeyer-Belger. βAccepting the role of Head Womenβs Basketball Coach feels like coming full circle, and I am excited to bring my passion, commitment, basketball knowledge and development to the next generation of athletes. With a deep connection to this community and an understanding of what it means to be a part of this program, Iβm dedicated to building a team that reflects the hard work, competitiveness, and perseverance that ΒιΆΉΙη stands for. Together, weβll work to achieve excellence on and off the court.β
Schwagmeyer-Belger and her husband, former ΒιΆΉΙη point guard Courtney Belger β12, run the 25 Eight Mentality AAU program. Her dedication to the development of athletes, particularly by drawing from local talent in the community, distinguishes her as a coach.
